Real Madrid are in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain and are hopeful of signing Neymar before the European transfer deadline closes, according to Sky Sports. The French champions made the Brazilian superstar the world’s most expensive footballer when they triggered the release clause in his Barcelona contract two years ago. Neymar had hoped that breaking free from the shadow of Lionel Messi would help catapult him into Ballon d’Or winning contention but PSG’s continued struggles in the Champions League, allied to his own injury struggles have put paid to that dream. The 27-year-old has been guilty of numerous disciplinary breaches during his time in the French captial, meanwhile, and PSG are said to have grown tired of his conduct and will reluctantly sell their prize asset, assuming their valuation is met.

Zinedine Zidane had made Paul Pogba his priority signing

According to reports in Spain, Nemyar was offered to Manchester United and Juventus earlier this summer, but neither club were demonstrated formal interest. Barcelona had been keen on bringing Neymar, a part of the club’s most recent Champions League winning team, back to Camp Nou but focused their spending elsewhere on the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong. Real Madrid have undergone major reconstructive surgery this summer to the tune of over £300million with the likes of Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Ferland Mendy joining Zinedine Zidane’s new-look team. Zidane was keen to make Paul Pogba his headline summer purchase, but United are unwilling to sell despite the Frenchman reportedly opting out of last weekend’s friendly against AC Milan.
